Experiment 5: Magnetic Force And Magnetic Torque

General Directions

• All data you collect must be saved in excel (or similar) and submitted with the rest of the experimental materials.

• All graphs must be made using excel, python, etc.

• All questions requiring a written response most be written in complete sentences.

Magnetic Force

The directions for both the pre-lab activities and the experiment for the magnetic force experiment can be found here.

Notes:

• We do not have the steel balls described in the experiment used to find the spring constant. Instead, use paperclips but make sure the total mass you add to the spring DOES NOT exceed 5.0g. 

• Make sure the power supply you use has controls to regulate both the current and the voltage as you need to make sure the current DOES NOT exceed 3.0A for extended periods.

Magnetic Torque

The magnetic torque experimental apparatus has the capability to do four different experiments. You must complete any two of the experiments for full credit.
